November 2023 Author Update

red leaf trees near the road

Hey guys,

I wanted to give you all a quick November author update on what I’ve been working on.

Apologies for the radio silence. My goal has been to focus on working as fast as possible.

What have I been writing?

Writing has been mostly for leisure as of late since editing takes precedent.

Periodically, I have been writing a continuation of the story involving the prison break. I’m mostly just feeling it out currently with no plans for something serious.

This story follows a convicted murderer (nicknamed Snooky) finally free and adjusting to outside life. Only, much like Garnet, who’d freed her, Snooky has her own job. One that she really doesn’t want to do.

As she’s finally out and finding work, the Don of the mob gives Garnet their next adventure. They are to kidnap a girl named Faith. Worse, Faith’s believed mother showed unrelenting kindness towards Snooky while they were incarnated together.

Snooky sees this job as an act of betrayal toward her friend’s memory and refuses. Instead, she seeks to find this elusive Don and give him a piece of her mind, for hers and Garnet’s sake. Garnet is still searching for her sister with one clue.

Of course, when you go looking for trouble, you find it. Once Snooky meets the Don, her life gets incredibly worse.

The Don makes demands, and he always gets what he wants…

So yeah, I like the story so far. Writing it has been sparse, but this is the one I’ve enjoyed the most currently.

I want Snooky to come out of her shell and find peace for her troubled past. That’s been the motivation for telling this story.

 How’s editing going?

The Gathering of Misfits Series

Through peer revision, I’m currently on chapters 18-19 in revising The Gathering of Misfits. It’s been going well. Others have shown me little places where I can make the story more immersive. Most have enjoyed the added emotion of this draft.

I’ve been moving at a pace of 2-4 chapters a week.

Overall, the feedback from this community and other writers has been great. I need to sit down and compile/apply it all. With 30 chapters to go, I wish to finish by January or February.

Admittedly, I worry about this one and its series. I fear others may not like it or give it a shot. Maybe it’s that old self-doubt creeping in, but sometimes I doubt whether others will like any of my stuff.

Psyche’s Story and Delays

Any work on Psyche’s story has currently ceased. The next steps are for me to make an appointment with an editor/agent who specializes more in this field.

For Psyche’s story, I’m at my wit’s end and may need someone removed from me to discuss my vision with and plan what’s next into actionable steps. I felt everything was ready to go, but now it has all come apart. The book seemed so close.

I had ideas. I had plans, but now, I’m disgusted with it. Nothing feels right.

It has been hard to move forward with the book, and if I’m honest, part of me wants to quit. Again, there’s that self-doubt telling me again that “no one will like it anyway, so why bother.”

What’s next with it? I don’t know.

I plan to continue working on this book somehow. Between Christmas and Thanksgiving, work on the project might wait until the new year to continue. We shall see. It might be the break I need.

Not gonna lie; I’ve been feeling discouraged.

How’s the comic?

It’s going swell actually. I believe we are officially over half-way through the illustration process.

The artist has been nice and easy to work with. My hopes are to find another person to help with a script for the next issue, so I can keep the process going.

I don’t know if I should show much yet, but know that this one makes me incredibly happy, and I hope it will make you all feel the same.

Thanks for reading!

Sincerely,

Antonio
